Biryani is a very popular favourite, bringing any Indian dining table to life! This layered dish of fragrant rice is easy to prepare with our flavour-packed spice blend.
Spice Blend for Biryani
You’ll Need: 500g Basmati rice, 500g lamb/ chicken (on the bone pieces), 150g onions, 200g peeled potatoes, 200g chopped tomatoes, garlic and ginger paste, yoghurt and lemon juice (as preferred), 120ml cooking oil, 50g Biryani Masala.
Recipe for Biryani: Wash and soak the rice in twice its volume of water for 20 minutes. Prepare meat/ chicken for marination in a mix of garlic and ginger paste, yoghurt, lemon juice and salt - and marinate for 30 minutes.
Chop onions and potatoes and fry in oil until both are softened. Stir in the tomatoes and Biryani Mix for a further 2-3 minutes. Then, add the meat/chicken and 3 cups of water and cover and simmer for 20 minutes. When the meat is cooked, add salt to taste.
Boil rice until half cooked and place onto a separate dish, and add layer-by-layer with the meat curry mix. Add remaining water from the rice pot and simmer till the rice is fully cooked. Serve with raitha.
